Revell 5405 Santa Maria, Columbus Ship 1/90 Scale
Santa Maria was a typical merchant ship of the 15th century. Besides Noah's Ark, it is undoubtedly the most famous ship in the world. On September 9, 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail from the Canary Islands to find a western naval route to India - a voyage that has become one of the largest discovery voyages in history. Columbus chose Santa Maria as the flagship of his small fleet. With 100 tons and a crew of 52, it was the largest of the three. After a distressful journey, on October 12, Columbus last discovered the island of Watling in the Bahamas, which was believed to be "one of the islands inscribed on maps at the end of the Orient". In the following discovery cruise, Santa Maria landed in Haiti. Its wood was eventually used for the construction of the fortress.
